A New Barn

Amazingly, our new barn was up and standing in less than two days! The donkeys and llamas were as fascinated as the humans, walking through it often and observing the crew as they worked. Finally, we have a big enough space for everyone in that pasture to get out of bad weather and hot sun, a safe and dry foaling sight plus storage space. After the tornado, our shed was not rebuilt, leaving one small stall for protection. Our donkeys prefer to stand under the trees during most storms, but the barn offers a much drier and safer alternative, especially during severe weather. We were able to test it yesterday as tornado and severe thunderstorm warnings blared from the emergency weather radio and TV. The animals seemed quite content to remain inside without any problems.

The next step will be the construction of the stalls. That may take a little longer than it took a 6 man crew working full time on the outside. But, for now, it is nice to know we have a big enough shelter for quite a few of our animals, and on occasion, a few humans, too.
