Type A's and Timids

Like people, donkeys come in all sorts of colors, shapes, sizes and personalities. Personality differences really show up during feeding, grooming, shots and worming. The Type-A's, as I call them, will knock each other down to race to the feed trough when the food bucket appears, while the more timid will stand back and hope to get a spot where they can at least grab a few bites. During hoof care, the A's fuss and wiggle and do all they can to escape while the easy going donkeys stand obediently and seem not to be bothered by it all. When it comes to shots, whew, we really appreciate the donkeys that stand still and get it over with quickly.

The Type-A's are really fun to watch, being extra full of themselves while playing and entertain us with their antics. They let us know when we are brushing how much they really need a good brush and are quick to lean in to our reach, making sure we see them (as if we can miss them), pressing closer and 'gently' moving whomever is getting brushed at the time. They are a bit of a challenge to deal with at times, but can be just as loving and adorable as their laid back counterparts. Sounds like some people I know.
