Watching the weather radar has always interested me. With the summer tropical storms moving across it, the size of each storm can be an impressive sight. When we are safely inland and only receive a few winds or rains, the storm is only of passing interest. But, to those directly in it's path, an upcoming storm can be pretty frightening. At times they seem to come out of nowhere, at other times there is plenty of warning.
Life is much like that radar screen. Some days we see nothing but clear blue skies, other days are totally cloudy, but sometimes there are those days with large storms which we dread coming straight towards us, yet have no way to escape. With the serious illness of my Dad, the storm seems to be building with no sign of blue sky.
But, while watching Woody run circles early this morning, I was reminded how carefree and happy he is. Running at full speed, cutting corners and making circles was a delight to him and enjoyable for me to watch. It was a little glimpse of happiness, like the beam of sunshine through the clouds that is there each day when I pay attention and look for it.
The bible says we are to think and meditate on the pure, worthy and good things. We are not to hold in our burdens, but give them to the only One who can help. Surely the little glimpse of a happy foal, much like those little breaks of sun on a cloudy day, are worthy reminders of the clear skies that are sure to follow the storms.
