Happy November

November has arrived with cool nights and gorgeous days. The donkeys are beginning to wear their winter coats and look fluffy and warm. Isn't it wonderful how the the animals are taken care of? Almost overnight, their sleek summer coats become soft and thick, a buffer to cold winds and rain. They are enjoying the cooler weather, often running for no other reason than to enjoy the day, sometimes napping in the warm afternoon sun.

Our newest jack, Bamboo, is now happily residing in the pasture with several of the girls and our four llamas. He was very curious around the llamas and tried several times to get close enough to see exactly what they were. After some brief chases, he became bored with it all and they are now ignoring one another and grazing as usual. Donkeys are adaptable and usually after a short time they seem to feel right at home with other animals, even those they have not been around before.

There is never a shortage of chores to be done when you have animals and this weekend was no exception. No need for entertainment with Bill trying to worm the llamas on Saturday! He wrestled them into a head lock and tried to be sure they swallowed the paste. We have been told there are better ways. We now believe it. But, he got the job done without any of the worming paste being spit out or onto him, thankfully. Today, we trimmed hooves on a few donkeys, which he is learning to do very well. I reminded him how much money he was saving us and he reminded me he could probably spend twice that much at a chiropractor later this week for his back!
